Sammi Therapeutic Pillow - Generation 4 will be a pillow with sensors to measure and monitor the sleeper’s heart rate and snoring while sleeping. We are also looking at possibly measuring and monitoring other biometrics such as body temperature, pulse, breathing rate and sleep patterns. The information will be used as a baseline for the sleeper to make adjustments to improve the quality of sleep.
We would market the completed Gen 4 product as a system that monitors sleep and provides a baseline and documented improvement in the quality of sleep. FDA would need to clear Gen 4 as a medical device. Cervical pillow studies show the pillow structure actually can improve sleep.
We have not decided yet whether to develop one for early childhood use, for adults, or both.Part of the decision will be on the amount of funding available and the attendant cost of research and development. We intend to use as many off-the-shelf components as possible, including the sensors, microprocessor and power supply.
Like other devices using artificial intelligence (AI), we will develop software and algorithms to decode the signals picked up by the sensors and send the decoded signals to the cloud to be picked up by a smartphone. Besides movement and acoustics, we are looking at measuring and monitoring other biometrics such as body temperature, breathing rate, and heart rate to correspond these biometrics with REM and non-REM sleep. The information will be used as a baseline for the sleeper to make adjustments to improve the quality of sleep.
This would be the first time that one could actually document the degree of sleep improvement, if any. The idea is for Gen 4 to monitor sleep disorders and for you to make adjustments to your Gen 4 pillow to improve your or your child's sleep by reducing or eliminating snoring, back pain and mild sleep apnea.
